Monte Amiata is the highest Italian extinct volcano. The summit of Monte Amiata is 1738 meters above sea level between the provinces of Siena and Grosseto in southern Tuscany.
The surrounding area contains volcanic lakes, rugged rocks, river sources and several protected areas. Monte Amiata boasts a broad variety of natural habitats, from forests of chestnut and beech to water springs and even mineral quarries.
