Much has been made about the wonders of Venice, but few ever venture deep enough across its less touristy, yet still historical hidden places. Beyond hundreds of canals and a diverse architectural style, a secret facet of Venetian life lives on, in which the journey of hand crafting gondola wooden oars and loomed fabrics remains rooted in ancient folk traditions.
This short film uncovers the secrets that have been handed down from father to son and projects you to the Venice that existed 500 years ago, immersing you in the extraordinary craftsmen’s veiled workshops that belong to a long lost era.
I have received so many messages asking for details on how I produce my videos.
I put down this short piece: oliver.as/videotips this explains few techniques I have been using and includes a list of equipment. Don’t hesitate to write to me if you need further details or have any recommendation.
This project has been produced in partnership with René Caovilla, the master Venetian shoemaker who has overwhelmed the world with his creations.

ベネチアの風景と人々の営み。
A few days ago I had the chance to stay in Venezia for four hours. It was the first time in my life, despite living in Italy and being almost forty. I’ve been waiting for this so long that I decided to shoot a video to remember this experience.
I tried to replicate the approach of the ancient travellers, meaning that I didn’t use a map and I simply walked around losing myself in the beautiful narrow alleys of the city, trying to capture the life of the natives and trying to avoid the tourist areas as much as possible. I must say that the experience was pure gold. Venezia is without doubt one of the most beautiful cities on earth, a place you’ll remember forever.

ベネチアの日常をとらえた短い映像。
La Biennale di Venezia’s 15th International Architecture Exhibition bears the title “Reporting from the Front” and is curated by Alejandro Aravena. The exhibition includes 88 participants from 37 different countries. 50 of them are participating for the first time, and 33 architects are under the age of 40. This video provides you with a walk through the Arsenale exhibition space and the Central Pavilion in the Giardini.
